Unlike residential refrigerators that rely on compressors to cool by compressing refrigerant vapor, RV refrigerators operate on an absorption process. This method heats a liquid refrigerant that evaporates in a low-pressure environment, drawing heat from its surroundings.
This difference in cooling technology means RV refrigerators generally require 8–12 hours to reach optimal temperatures, while residential models typically cool down in about 4–6 hours. RV refrigerators should maintain temperatures of 36–40°F in the refrigerator compartment and between 0 and -10°F in the freezer.
