Maintaining the torque of your RV's wheel lug nuts is a crucial aspect of safe RV ownership. Keystone RV Master Technicians, Matt and Bart, explain the importance of this task and provide guidance on the proper procedures to ensure your safety on the road.
Understanding the size, weight, and center of gravity of your RV is vital. These factors subject the wheels to unique pressures that differ significantly from those experienced by standard vehicles.
As the manufacturer, Keystone ensures that lug nuts are torqued at least three times before your RV leaves the factory. However, it is the owner's responsibility to verify that they remain tight and properly torqued before every trip. This function is a necessary part of normal maintenance, especially after any wheel removal or reinstallation during the lifespan of your RV.
Important: Avoid using a “4-Way” or any wrench that doesn’t accurately measure ft/lbs of pressure.
Warning: Excessive torque can damage the lug nut and stud, leading to potential wheel separation.
According to your axle/wheel manufacturer, lug nut torque should be checked before every trip. As the owner, it is your responsibility to review and adhere to the care and operation guidelines outlined in Chapter 4 of the Keystone Owner's Manual. Keystone Owner's Manuals
