Replacing an RV shower head and hose is a straightforward project that typically requires no tools when the fittings are designed to be hand-tightened. Shut off the water, remove the old assembly, and install a compatible replacement with its sealing washers in place. A careful leak check completes the job.
This guide covers a handheld shower head with a hose connected beneath the shower faucet and routed through a wall-mounted guide.
Gather:
Check the replacement’s connection sizes and installation instructions before removing the existing assembly. Confirm that the hose length and shower head fit your shower space and holder.
Turn off both shower faucet handles.
For the repair, switch off the RV water pump and shut off the city water supply if connected. Open the shower faucet briefly to relieve pressure, then close it.
Do not rely on the shower head’s pause button to isolate the water supply.
Place a towel beneath the faucet connection to catch water remaining in the hose.
Unscrew the hose fitting from the bottom of the faucet. For hand-tightened fittings, try loosening the connection by hand first to avoid damaging the finish or plastic components.
Disconnect the shower head from the hose if needed, then slide the hose out of the wall-mounted guide. The guide can remain attached to the wall.
Check the faucet outlet for an old washer that may have stayed behind. Remove it before installing the new connection so you do not accidentally stack two washers.
Confirm that the required washers are seated flat inside the hose fittings, following the replacement manufacturer’s instructions.
These washers provide the seal on washer-style connections. Tightening harder will not correct a missing, damaged, or crooked washer.
Use thread-sealing tape only if the replacement instructions specifically call for it.
If the hose ends differ, identify which end connects to the faucet before starting.
Keep the hose free of twists and kinks. If a fitting does not thread smoothly, back it off and realign it rather than forcing it.
Restore the water supply and open the shower faucet slowly. Run water through the shower head and inspect both hose connections.
Check that the hose moves freely and the shower head sits securely in its holder.
If a connection leaks, shut off the water and relieve pressure before taking it apart. Check washer placement and fitting alignment, then reconnect according to the product instructions. Avoid overtightening, which can damage fittings.
