To replace RV drawer guides, remove the drawer, mark the original mounting positions, and exchange the worn guides for compatible replacements. Reinstall the drawer and check that it opens, closes, and stays properly aligned. These instructions cover side-mounted guides with release tabs; other drawer-slide designs may require a different procedure.
A sticking or uneven drawer does not always need new guides. Check for loose mounting screws, obstructions, or damage to the drawer and cabinet first.
If replacement is needed, match the guide’s length, mounting style, clearance requirements, and load rating. Use complete, compatible guide assemblies rather than mixing new sections with worn parts. If the manufacturer specifies replacement as a pair, replace both sides.
Original screws may be reused if they are undamaged and suitable for the new guides. Avoid substituting longer screws that could penetrate the drawer or surrounding cabinet.
Remove the contents, then pull the drawer out until it reaches its normal stop.
Support the drawer and locate the release tab on each guide. Operate the tabs according to the guide’s design; some require one lever to move upward and the other downward.
Pull the drawer straight out while keeping both sides supported. Do not force it past the stops if the guides have not released.
Before removing the hardware, use a pencil to mark the lower edge and front position of each guide section:
These marks provide a reference for a matching replacement. If the new guides have different mounting requirements, follow their instructions rather than relying solely on the old marks.
Remove the screws and lift away the old sections. Inspect the mounting surfaces for cracks, stripped holes, or loose brackets. Repair damaged mounting points before proceeding.
Separate the new drawer rails from the cabinet sections using their release mechanisms.
Attach the outer sections to the cabinet and the inner rails to the drawer. Align matching replacements with your reference marks, maintaining the setback and clearance specified by the manufacturer.
Start screws by hand, then tighten carefully. Keep the guides straight, level with each other, and parallel. Avoid overtightening or stripping the mounting holes.
Position the cabinet-side slide members as directed by the manufacturer. Support the drawer level with the opening and align both drawer rails with their matching guides.
Slide the drawer inward evenly until it is fully engaged. Many release-tab guides reconnect as the drawer closes; operate the tabs during insertion only if the manufacturer’s instructions require it.
If the drawer binds or one side engages before the other, stop and realign it rather than pushing harder.
Open and close the empty drawer several times. Confirm that:
If operation is uneven, recheck alignment, clearances, and screw placement. Return the contents only after the drawer operates correctly, and stay within its load rating.
