Over time, RV compartment door locks can wear out or become stiff, making it difficult to access your exterior storage. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to replace your compartment door locks, ensuring smooth and secure access to your RV storage.

Tools and Parts Required:

• Philips screwdriver
• Tape measure
• Crescent wrench
• New lock with locking arm

RV Lock Components:

An RV lock is made up of two key parts:

1. The “cam”
2. The “locking arm”

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Remove the Old Lock

To order the correct replacement lock, you’ll first need to gather a few key measurements. Follow these steps:

• On the backside of the latch, locate the screw holding the mechanism in place. Use your Philips screwdriver to remove the screw and the locking arm.
• Next, use a crescent wrench to remove the nut from the cam (the main body of the door lock).
• Once the nut is removed, the cam can be pulled free from the door assembly.

2. Gather Measurements

To ensure you get the right replacement lock, take the following measurements:

• Cam Length: Measure from where the locking arm rests to the inside lip of the cam.
• Locking Arm Length: Measure the locking arm from end to end.
• Offset (Bend) of the Locking Arm: Measure the bend or offset of the locking arm to ensure a proper fit.

Having these measurements will help you order the correct replacement part, ensuring the new lock engages properly.

3. Install the New Lock

Once you have the new lock, follow these steps for installation:

• Ensure the key lock is in the unlocked position.
• Insert the cam into the door and secure it by installing the cam lock nut with the crescent wrench.

• If the locking arm is accidentally facing the wrong direction, simply remove the screw and rotate the locking arm 180 degrees.
